Gout & Purine content of foods

Gout can be controlled by diet & lifestyle changes. As overweight @ obese individuals are at higher risk of developing gout. Achieving a normal @ ideal weight is essential.

Food that are rich in purine should be limited or avoided altogether.

High:
Sardines, anchovies, herrings, kidneys, liver, sweetbreads (the pancrease & thymus gland of calves or lambs), yeast & alcohol (especially beer)


Medium:
Shellfish and other seafood, red meat, pouktry, beans, peas, lentils, spinach, oatmeal, wheat germ and bran


Low:
Fruits and most vegetable, nuts, fats, most bread, cereal, dairy products, eggs, syrup and sweets
