Nutrient Supplements

Nutrient Supplements:
  • not necessary for most individual
  • Supplements of vitamins, minerals or fibre do not supply the nutrients & other essential components present in food that are important to health
  • Can not be used as substitute for proper food choices
  • Supplements of some nutrients taken regularly in large amounts are harmful

However, may be needed to meet specific nutrient requirements such as:
  • convalescence
  • pregnant & lactating women
  • elderly
Should only be taken  on the advice of nutritionists, dietitians or medical doctors.
